Riding on “E”

Hello Friends! It has been 3 weeks since my last Post and I apologize for the hiatus.  When I write my Posts and I go back and read them, I realize that sometimes when I write, I am writing for myself.

In the past few weeks It seems that I have been so busy with the responsibilities of work, family, selling my home and preparing to move, Church related activities, as well as the daily challenges that seem to come up out of nowhere that sometimes I feel like I’m riding on ‘E’!

I know someone can relate out there.  You see I am no stranger to riding with my gas tank on ‘E’ as I drive on average just under a thousand miles a week.  At times when I am “financially challenged”, I can tell you that it can be a stressful feeling when you HAVE to be someplace and you are riding on E.  The newer cars today have a Range meter that will tell you exactly how many miles you can drive until you are empty. (How I could have used that option years ago).

My niece calls it riding on Excitement, Some say Riding on Fumes, Riding on Hope, etc. In all honesty, I have found myself riding on Spiritual Fumes lately. I have had to follow my own advice and “Be Still” sometimes, or Do Not Worry About Tomorrow .   My gas light has been on, my miles to empty have been in the single digits, some days I sputter but I thank God that I have my Heavenly Debit Card and that I have been able to fill my tank on the Word of God in order to make it to my destination.

Friends we need to cling to the Lord when we get overwhelmed, trust that he won’t let us run out of gas, we need to pray with out ceasing, we need to fill our Spiritual gas tanks with the Holy Spirit. We need constant communication with the Lord,  We need to study of the Word, and above all trust Him in all things.

Let us not forget how good God has been to us and the many times He has come through for us in many situations.  If he has done it before he will do it again if only trust and believe in Him.  Phillippians 4:6-9 NLT says:

6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Reading these verses over the past few weeks have kept me from running out of gas when I was riding on ‘E’. Remember that we are never alone in our trials and we just need to cast our burdens on Him and have the faith of a mustard seed.

As always brothers and sisters, be encouraged and not discouraged. Remember Proverbs 3:6 – In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Be Blessed!  Until later, I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod!

Reaping what you sow…..

Hi Friends! I hope this post finds you well. Let me get right into it. It is said that where we are in life right now is a direct result of the seeds we’ve sown prior to this point.  This goes beyond what you normally hear about reaping what you sow –  the standpoint of “an eye for an eye.”

I take my Mom to a Support Group at our church called Grief Share . If you or anyone you know has lost a loved one, I highly recommend this 13 week program, it is extremely helpful.

A week or two ago they gave the example that one person reaped loneliness in her life because when friends had asked her months earlier to come over for dinner she said no, when they asked her to come over and watch a movie and she said no, when they asked her to go to the shopping mall with them she said no.  So here she is months later feeling lonely because the “No” seed she sowed with her friends eventually made them stop asking her out.

What seeds have you sown in the last year? The last six months? last week? Today? Do you want a better relationship with God? Do you want happiness? Do you want prosperity? What is it that your desire? Think about it and start sowing that good seed.

There are so many examples of the sowing of seeds in the bible…

Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another–or maybe both. Ecclesiastes 11:6 NLT

“But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”2 Corinthians 9:6 KJV

There is a story of the two farmers. There was a very dry season and both farmers prayed for rain for good crops that season.  The first farmer prayed for rain every day for weeks.  The second farmer prayed every day for weeks as well. After a couple months, there still was no rain. One day, the first farmer was looking in the fields and saw the second farmer planting his seed in the ground.   The first farmer was looking at the second farmer and was thinking to himself that the second farmer was wasting his time and his seed because he had been praying for months and there was no rain.  Needless to say, that night it rained and it rained hard!  God did answer both their prayers in His time, but only one’s seed to root and brought harvest because he had faith and was prepared to receive his blessing.

So my brothers and sisters, I encourage you to search yourselves and start sowing that good seed.  Pray without ceasing, and have faith that God will answer your prayers.  He may not answer your prayers in your time, but he will answer them in His time.  Prepare yourselves for your blessings and sow your good seed!

Until later, I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 KJV

Recharged and Refocused

Hi Friends!

Fresh from my weekend in Augusta, GA I am Recharged and Refocused!  I went to visit an old friend who I went to high school with.  He is a preacher now and he was hosting a Men’s program and it was excellent.  When we spoke early last week and he invited me up to GA, I looked into flying from Tampa but the flights were too expensive.  I figured it wasn’t going to happen, but let me tell you – when God wants you to be somewhere, He makes it happen!

So I didn’t secure a flight, but I did secure a rental car…(Ok, a plug for Dodge here, the 2011 Charger is all that!! True american muscle!! If I could afford one I’d buy it!)

Seeing my friend brought back many memories.  Many of them about the “bad boy” years at University of Florida and beyond.  (See  My Story Part 2)  On the other side of that coin it made me see the Goodness of God!  Because both of us said we should have been dead or in jail!!  Which reminds me – in part of My Story,  I failed to mention that when I was in Miami (when I used to run the streets late at night) my Mom told me that my Dad used to say “one day they are going to drop Dwayne on the door step in a body bag!”  (Was I really that bad??)

Anyway, it was amazing for us to be riding in a car going to church together! Not riding dirty like the old days, Two men getting together to praise the Lord and to encourage each other on our Faith Walk.  Proverbs 27:17 says As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.  I truly got sharpened this weekend.  The added blessing was that my son was with me.  Two men and their sons going to seek the Lord…Awesome!

There were Four speakers at the program, They Spoke of sowing  good seed,  Love is Action, Witnessing and winning souls for Christ in these last days, And the power we have as heirs to the Kingdom of God.  I cannot begin to tell you how renewed I feel… Each speaker truly expounded on their topics and shared their life stories. This visit truly added fuel to my fire and my passion for the Lord!

In the last year of my life, I believe my Spiritual foundation has been formed and solidified. After this weekend,  I believe God is revealing his plan for me.  I pray that I continue to grow at an even deeper level than this past year,  and that I can share this fire and passion for the Lord with all the Men of my church as well as all I come in contact with.

As Men, God has called us to be the best we can be in all of our relationships, as Heads of our houses, as Fathers,  as Husbands, as Bosses, as Employees, etc.  We need to seek him first in all things. We should be living for Him that died for us and doing His will and His work as His hands here on earth.

There is so much power in the Word of God and we need to seek Him first in ALL THINGS and read His Word daily.  I feel that as Men (and as Christians) we all need to get recharged and refocused to do what we have been called to do: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15  Let’s get busy!!!

Until later….I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod!
