My name is Dwayne Peterkin. I was re-baptized April 2011 and since then I have been doing my best to obey the Lord Jesus Christ and do his will. In this sinful world IT IS NOT EASY to stand up for God. You'll be tested, friendships may fall by the wayside, old habits will fade away. I hope that as I share my Faith Walk, others are encouraged on theirs. I hope you join me on this journey.

Walking in a Dead Man’s Shoes

A little while after my father passed away, my mom told me a few times that I should go through his closet because he had so many clothes and since we were the same size I should pick what I wanted before she decided to take his things to Goodwill.  I never could bring myself to do it.  Maybe another week or two went by and my brother came to town.  I’ll never forget the night my Mom asked my brother and I to go through Dad’s closet and take what we wanted.  I was so glad that my brother was there to help me through that experience.

We tried on suits, (we discovered my Dad had at least a dollar in every suit pocket and a breath mint.) we tried on shirts, hats, ties and shoes.  Believe me when I tell you I never have to buy a suit again!  Whenever I wear a blazer or a tie of his and I receive compliments I smile and say thanks and I think, man my Father has me looking good!  I put on my father!

This past Sabbath I wore my father’s gators and I thought to myself, that I am walking in a dead man’s shoes.  I think of how good I feel knowing that in every step I take I walk my fathers walk.

As I strive to be that man of God, so must I walk in the shoes of the Risen Savior,  Jesus Christ our Lord.  I put Him on every day and I’m proud to be a son of the King.  So even though I am proud to walk in the shoes of my earthly father.  I am prouder to walk in the footprints of  Jesus, the Dead Man that rose again!

No scriptures to quote, nothing else to say….I’m wiping my tears and tryingtobeamanofgod….

Dwayne, I feel the tears you have for your father, it was four years ago this month my father also went home to be with Jesus. I have been trying to be the man of pray he was and even more so the man of prayer Jesus is. AMEN!

Wiping my tears too. Little did you know how much you were becoming like him before you wore his shoes. He’d be so proud of you!

What a lovely tribute to your father, both earthly and heavenly. God Bless.
