My name is Dwayne Peterkin. I was re-baptized April 2011 and since then I have been doing my best to obey the Lord Jesus Christ and do his will. In this sinful world IT IS NOT EASY to stand up for God. You'll be tested, friendships may fall by the wayside, old habits will fade away. I hope that as I share my Faith Walk, others are encouraged on theirs. I hope you join me on this journey.

The Do Over

sandkey sunset 12_01_12

Today I posted on my Facebook page that at 8:17 AM I was already looking for a do over.  It was really a crazy morning at work and on a  Monday, it’s pretty much expected.  I’m also battling a cold so that doesn’t help either.

I miss that childhood innocence that if you don’t like what you’ve just done, or if the result of whatever you are participating in is not to your liking that you can just shout “do over!” and give it another try.

So today I left work after my morning meeting, ate some soup, and got back in bed.  I was thinking that this is about as best as I can get for a do over today.  But after I got real with myself and stopped whining (the whole world is coming to an end when I’m sick!) I realized that through Christ, I have gotten the biggest do over ever!

As I think of the man I was and look at the man I have become, I am truly thankful! Mind you this do over came with its share of pain to myself and others but nothing compares to the ultimate price  our Savior paid so that we can have a chance for a do over of our sinful life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 states:  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

What a privilege it is to have this opportunity! Jesus gave us the ultimate do over and  I am so thankful for it!  That is why I do my best to live like Matthew 6:33  says: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Jesus gave His life for me so I feel that the least I can do is try to live this life the best I can….I know I can never repay Him, but the least I can do is try to do His work and His will, with the do over He gave me….

Blessings friends! I pray everyone who reads this is blessed and impressed to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and accept His gift of the do over!

Until later…I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod!

Blessings…

Recharged and Refocused

Hi Friends!

Fresh from my weekend in Augusta, GA I am Recharged and Refocused!  I went to visit an old friend who I went to high school with.  He is a preacher now and he was hosting a Men’s program and it was excellent.  When we spoke early last week and he invited me up to GA, I looked into flying from Tampa but the flights were too expensive.  I figured it wasn’t going to happen, but let me tell you – when God wants you to be somewhere, He makes it happen!

So I didn’t secure a flight, but I did secure a rental car…(Ok, a plug for Dodge here, the 2011 Charger is all that!! True american muscle!! If I could afford one I’d buy it!)

Seeing my friend brought back many memories.  Many of them about the “bad boy” years at University of Florida and beyond.  (See  My Story Part 2)  On the other side of that coin it made me see the Goodness of God!  Because both of us said we should have been dead or in jail!!  Which reminds me – in part of My Story,  I failed to mention that when I was in Miami (when I used to run the streets late at night) my Mom told me that my Dad used to say “one day they are going to drop Dwayne on the door step in a body bag!”  (Was I really that bad??)

Anyway, it was amazing for us to be riding in a car going to church together! Not riding dirty like the old days, Two men getting together to praise the Lord and to encourage each other on our Faith Walk.  Proverbs 27:17 says As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.  I truly got sharpened this weekend.  The added blessing was that my son was with me.  Two men and their sons going to seek the Lord…Awesome!

There were Four speakers at the program, They Spoke of sowing  good seed,  Love is Action, Witnessing and winning souls for Christ in these last days, And the power we have as heirs to the Kingdom of God.  I cannot begin to tell you how renewed I feel… Each speaker truly expounded on their topics and shared their life stories. This visit truly added fuel to my fire and my passion for the Lord!

In the last year of my life, I believe my Spiritual foundation has been formed and solidified. After this weekend,  I believe God is revealing his plan for me.  I pray that I continue to grow at an even deeper level than this past year,  and that I can share this fire and passion for the Lord with all the Men of my church as well as all I come in contact with.

As Men, God has called us to be the best we can be in all of our relationships, as Heads of our houses, as Fathers,  as Husbands, as Bosses, as Employees, etc.  We need to seek him first in all things. We should be living for Him that died for us and doing His will and His work as His hands here on earth.

There is so much power in the Word of God and we need to seek Him first in ALL THINGS and read His Word daily.  I feel that as Men (and as Christians) we all need to get recharged and refocused to do what we have been called to do: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15  Let’s get busy!!!

Until later….I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod!

Blessings,

Dwayne

My Story Part 8 – Epilogue

Hi Friends,

It was not easy for me to write these blogs to have to relieve the things I’ve done and the hurt I’ve caused (with the risk of hurting those people again by writing this)  but I know that the Lord had a purpose for me doing this.  And as I see my story being read around the world, I know God is blessing.

I want to say thanks to all who read and shared my story.  I pray that someone is touched, changed, enlighted, or inspired by it and choose to seek or continue  their own Faith walk or relationship with God.

I do need to say that I wrote my story so that readers of this blog will know that I was not perfect, that I will never be perfect, (only Jesus Christ lived the perfect life) but through God’s grace I changed.  God can change anyone and that is the main point here.   I may not have gone into grave detail in some areas and may have gone too far in others but understand the greater picture…I did not go into certain details to protect the innocent but I hoped that I wrote it from a standpoint where someone could “insert self here”.

Some have asked what’s the end of the story?  Well I am living it and maybe one day down the road I will add another chapter or too.  You see friends, God isn’t finished with me yet.  He continues to mold me and make me and use me for His will.  For those that have asked,  I remain separated and the outcome is not yet written in stone.

I continue to seek the Lord daily and do my best to walk on the path that he has prepared for me.  Romans 5:1-5  is like a glimpse of my journey and where I am at in my life… “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” NLT

Brothers and Sisters, I encourage you to go on your Faith Walk confidently, know that if you let Him,  the Lord will lead you to where he wants you to be.  You may not understand the hows, and the whys, but if you really trust him, he   WILL take care of you.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV  “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:34 NLT

Live for Today in Jesus so that you will be ready for Him when He calls you home or when He returns. (Which ever comes first).

Now that this foundation has been laid, I hope you continue to read my posts as I share my walk.  You see I am not a theologian, I am not a Bible scholar, I am not perfect.  I am a work in progress and I am just tryingtobeamanofgod…

Blessings,

Dwayne

The Crucible and the Sword

A crucible is defined as a ceramic or metal container in which metals or other substances may be melted or subjected to very high temperatures:

It is also defined as a situation of severe trial.

I am no stranger to struggles, and no stranger to disappointment.  It seems for most of my adult life I have been juggling like crazy. I’m used to the juggling, but lately, my prayer has been for God to keep the balls I’m juggling in the air!  It could be that I’m trying to meet a deadline, trying to stretch a dollar, or maybe I’m putting out a fire.

I don’t ask God not to have the struggles, because I believe that they are the things that make us stronger. I just pray that I see that the challenges or disappointments are the strengthening.

My Father told me that my faith walk would not be easy.  He said “Dwayne once you decide to follow God you will have a target on your back.”  Satan hates people who chose to put God first in their life and he will test them.  In Jamaica My Father was a foundry worker for some time working with molten steel and he spoke to me of  the refining process and the huge crucibals holding that hot molten steel.

In that conversation we talked about how a sword is made, how the  steel is heated, hammered, cooled then heated, hammered, cooled and repeated until that steel gets so strong!

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:5

That is the faith walk Brothers and Sisters, the trials, the challenges, the faith, the prayer, the victory –  the strengthening of the relationship with God.  We need to have Hope.

Friends, do not get discouraged, but be happy when the trials come. Know that the Lord is giving you an opportunity to grow and be strengthened.  Just like that sword, you may get heated, feel like your being hammered, but when you cool down you will be stronger.  And when God is finished polishing you and shining you up, you will be beautiful… a sight to behold.

Whatever is going on in your life right now know that Jesus is our crucible, he is holding that molten steel and is going to refine us into something beautiful if we put him first in ALL things.

Be Blessed!

Until later, I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

B.I.B.L.E.

Hello Friends,

Peace and Blessings! I will be going away to a Men’s Retreat this weekend so I will not Post again until next week.  I am certain that I will be blessed and ready to share when I return.

As I am preparing myself to receive God’s blessing this weekend, I wanted to share an excerpt from The Great Controversy by Ellen G. White.

“As the mine has rich veins of gold and silver hidden beneath the surface, so that all must dig who would discover its precious stores, so the Holy Scriptures have treasures of truth that are revealed only to the earnest, humble, prayerful seeker. God designed the Bible to be a lesson book to all mankind, in childhood, youth, and manhood, and to be studied through all time. He gave His word to men as a revelation of Himself.  Every new truth discerned is a fresh disclosure of the character of its Author.  The study of the Scriptures is the means divinely ordained to bring men into closer connection with their Creator and to give them a clearer knowledge of His will. It is the medium of communication between God and man.”  The Waldenses Page 29

Friends, I encourage you to read your Bible every day.  There is a wealth of knowledge there waiting to be discovered.  I once heard some children say the Bible is: the Best Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

So true!  Check the link on this site for the Online Parallel Bible.  It has several versions of the Bible there so you can find the one that works the best for you.  It is searchable and a great tool.

Yes, the Bible is the best tool you can ever have.  It can Unlock secrets, Open Hearts, Open Minds, Protect you from Evil,  Reveal the Truth and so much more! Act now and God will pour out not one – but a double portion of the Holy Spirit, He can Change your life in an instant, but call on him now because this offer is for a limited time!

Seriously Brothers and Sisters, be encouraged and read your Bible Daily. Prayer and Reading the Bible are the Keys to communication with our  Heavenly Father and we need to get into the habit of Daily study.

OneYearBible online is an excellent way to read the bible in a year.  You can download the app for the verses to read everyday…It’s awesome.  I encourage you all to try it, just start on the current date and start reading.  In one year you will have read the whole bible.

Be Encouraged on your faith walk friends….I will be back next week with My Story New York Part 2.   Until then, I am just tryingtobeamanofgod…

Blessings,

Dwayne.

Don’t Waste Time….

Hi Friends,

Thank you all for coming back and reading and sharing my blog. I appreciate all the comments and encouragement.

People ask me why I am so open with my life story and why do I reveal so much about me.  I need to lay this foundation so you will understand my future posts.  I will get back to My Story soon and I apologize that the last part was not as long as the others…it is a real process to “go there” in my past and bring you my story, but I know it is what God wants me to do for someone out there.  But enough about that, let’s get started.

As you will find out in My Story, (and not to get ahead of myself) I was walking the fence for some time, but when I heard God call me to him – I answered, and I have not looked back since. (By God’s Grace I never will).

Someone out there needs to know that you need to answer that knock on the door of your heart.  Don’t waste time thinking, “right after I get this right, I’m coming to Jesus” or “I just need to do this, then I’m ready”.

James 4:14 says “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” New Living Translation

Do you like how you are living now? Do you want to make some changes?

Whitney Houston thought she had more time, Steve Jobs thought he had more time. I thought my Father had more time.  None of us are promised tomorrow.

Jesus speaking to the Disciples when they asked about signs that the end is near in Matthew 24:16-18 says “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat.” New Living Translation

Friends we need to move with urgency when we are called. Many of us have decisions we need to make in our lives and we are standing there at the crossroads thinking about which way to go and we are just wasting time.

We need to pray to God and Trust in Him in all things so that we don’t waste the time he gives us.  Don’t return to the house to pack, God will provide. Don’t return from the field for a coat. God will cover you. Stop pondering and act.

You know the times [in which we are living]. It’s time for you to wake up. Our salvation is nearer now than when we first became believers. Romans 13:11 God’s Word Translation

It is not hard to see the world around us is a mess. I grew up hearing people say “Jesus is coming soon!” Our Parents said it, their Parent’s said it and so on, but now more than ever I believe Jesus return is SOON!.  Seek Him and you will find Him, call on Him and He will come.

2 Peter 3:10 says: “The day of the Lord will come like a thief…” On that day heaven will pass away with a roaring sound. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and be destroyed. The earth and everything that people have done on it will be exposed. God’s Word Translation

So it’s not my intention here to preach Fire and Brimstone, I’m just saying in my Faithwalk, I am trying to Judge myself from now, expose myself from now, prepare for the Kingdom that is coming now….. I don’t want to waste time.

Whoever hears what I’m really saying here, I just want to encourage you on YOUR Faithwalk.  You are not the only one trying to do God’s Will.  I’m with you….I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod…..

Blessings,

Dwayne

Reboot!

I have worked in the IT industry for over 20 years.  Having an Operations background you run across many system related problems and many PC related problems.

Today there are a lot of buzz words that you hear used in the industry like “Cloud” computing, and some make their way in to pop culture and even into the dictionary, like “Google”.

So that got me to thinking about  the term reboot,  and when you would actually perform one on a PC.

When you call tech support  for help trouble shooting your PC one of the first things they ask is if you rebooted your PC.  That is usually the big fix for most issues.  I can’t log on to the network – “Reboot!” My PC crashed – “Reboot!”, etc.

I was watching the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, which is a very good movie about “juicing”.  In the movie they mentioned the word “reboot” as they referred to cleansing your body and changing what you put into your body as you start your diet.

Then I thought how many times do we need a Spiritual Reboot?  We need to be connected to God’s Network.  If we’re not – we need to reboot.  How many Pop ups are we allowing in our lives that are causing viruses in our spiritual life?  Are we running our lives without the Critical Updates such as prayer and Bible Study? Have we clicked on something we shouldn’t have and now we have a Virus?  Maybe we are headed for the Blue Screen of death in our spiritual lives because we don’t have God’s Service Pack Installed.  We need to go read the manual (which is the Bible) so we can install the latest Fix.

Friends we need to Format our Hearts and install God’s Operating system.  We need to Spam others and tell them about the Love of Jesus Christ.  Tell them to Click Now because they may have already won Eternal Life!

Malachi 3:10 says “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

See…God is our Server and He’s running Windows of Heaven Open System…It’s time for an upgrade in our Spiritual lives…

I am connected to the “Cloud” of Glory and I am running Windows of Heaven Version Seventh Day Adventist, because I don’t mess with Apples!!

Until later….I’m just tryingtobeamanofgod…

Blessings,

Dwayne
